Legal Counsel Professional Southern Africa

YOUR ROLE

We are looking for a highly qualified Legal Counsel to oversee the legal aspects of our business. The Legal Counsel is responsible for representing the company as in-house counsel in the corporate and business areas with focus on corporate and commercial matters, domestic and international contracts including customer contracts and procurement contracts and all matters involved in the day-to-day business operations of the local entities

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

• Analyze contractual projects as well as tenders, assess the risks and negotiate the legal terms where appropriate in consultation with operational and commercial staff, along with Legal Head of Africa region.
• Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights.
• Manage the corporate issues of the Southern Africa entities and prepare agenda, board or shareholder’s resolutions.
• Ensure prevention (drafting of legal notices, prevention of litigation, risk assessment, etc.) and participate in application of contractual risk management solutions. Provide training to the operation regarding contract risk awareness and minimization.
• Manage litigation files in consultation and cooperation with internal clients, insurers and external legal counsels.
• Giving accurate and timely counsel to sales people executives in a variety of legal topics.
• Disseminate internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance.
• Ensure legal watch (evolution of texts and case law in the relevant countries) and manage contractual databases, participate in their improvement and design activity reports.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• A recognized legal qualification in Business law through a reputable academic institution or bar admitted
• Minimum five (5) years professional legal experience in a law firm, or equivalent in-house experience, or a combination of the two, in transport or logistics industry.
• Business Law including Transportation and license, Contract Logistics and corporate law.
• Fluent in English.
• Spirit of synthesis and responsiveness
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people
• Business minded. Able to quickly understand the business’ needs, design solutions and efficiently deliver results.
• Strong negotiation, written and verbal skills.
